International Students Health Insurance

Health insurance is required for all F-1 and J-1 students at Minnesota State Moorhead. Students are automatically enrolled in the Moorhead health insurance plan and are responsible for the applicable premium.

Spring students: The $1,790 spring charge includes both spring and summer health insurance coverage.

Students starting in summer: Students who begin their program during the summer are charged the $624 summer insurance premium.

Spring graduates: Students who graduate at the end of the spring semester may request a refund for the summer portion of the insurance premium included in their spring charge. Please contact international@mnstate.edu to request an refund appeal.

Who Must Have Health Insurance?

Once you are admitted to Minnesota State Moorhead and receive an I-20 for F-1 students or DS2019 for J-1 students, you are entered into an agreement with Minnesota State Systems and abide by all the statement, policies, regulations and conditions that appears on your I-20 and DS2019 form. Purchasing the Moorhead health insurance is mandatory for all F-1 and J-1 students at Moorhead.

According to U.S. State Department Policy 22CFR514.14 requires that all international visitors on J-1 and J-2 visa carry health insurance provided by the institution.

Optional Dental Insurance

International students are able to purchase the optional Dental Insurance plan from United Health Care.
